In the early 1970’s, the Japanese manufacture’s such as Yamaha were basically taking over the entire motorcycle world that had been held for decades by the British. The Japanese are very talented in taking an idea or product, reverse engineering the subject and then building it back up, bigger and better than the original, and this is the case with the Yamaha XS650 twin. They took a Triumph Bonneville, did their magic, and the end result was a bike that was more dependable and more modern with the added bonus that it didn’t leak oil!! They said that the Honda 750 killed the British bikes but, in actuality, it was the Yamaha XS650 that was the real giant killer! This very nice example is a true time capsule with just over 1100 miles showing on the odometer and sporting all of its original accessories. The only notable issue on this bike is, after 44 years of hibernation, some of the bright work suffered with some light surface pitting and there is some outer engine case discoloration. Ride it as it is or take a little time and effort and bring the cosmetics back up to its original show room condition and you will have a real head turner. Selling with a clear California title.
